The Leader’s Toolbox – Your Path to Active and Enjoyable Leadership

With our book The Leader’s Toolbox – Your Path to Active and Enjoyable Leadership, we aim to give leaders more “gears” to use in their everyday leadership. The book provides concrete models, practical exercises, and reflections that help leaders lead both themselves and others more actively and enjoyably. It also seeks to inspire greater self-awareness. By understanding our different abilities and learning to shift between them, we unlock energy that allows us to lead ourselves and others more effectively.

The toolbox consists of six gears, plus the “R” gear, which in our case stands for Reflection. The gear shift illustrates the key behaviors we have identified as particularly important for increasing effectiveness in your leadership. To succeed fully as a leader, you should embrace and apply all the abilities symbolized by the toolbox.

The gears are as follows:

1 – Focuses on getting started, understanding your role, and leading yourself – self-leadership.

2 – Focuses on gaining momentum by understanding and applying effective communication, feedback, and goal management.

3 – Focuses on leading more efficiently by using coaching as a tool, helping team members prioritize, and delegating effectively.

4 – Focuses on leading teams and organizations, showing how the success factors for leading one team can be scaled to multiple teams and the entire organization.

5 – Focuses on leading through change and understanding the fears and obstacles that exist for both individuals and organizations.

6 – Focuses on how your maturity and personal development are prerequisites for leading at a higher level, both yourself and others.

The book is divided into two parts:

Part I: Start Shifting in Your Leadership – aimed primarily at new managers, new leaders without formal managerial roles, or those with a new manager reporting to them.

Part II: Shift Up Your Leadership – aimed at those with some leadership experience who have not yet fully “shifted up” their leadership through leading teams, leading change, and deepening self-awareness.

With this book and the practical tools it contains, we aim to lower the barrier to leadership and give more people the courage to step into the role and shift effectively in everyday situations. The book is also included as course material in our training programs.
